RAW vs JPEG

RAW vs JPEG

The main difference between any JPEG and RAW file is its size. RAW files are significantly bigger than JPEG (and any other) image file formats. That’s because they contain all the raw image information captured by your digital camera’s sensors, completely uncompressed.

Which file is bigger RAW or JPEG?  A RAW file will be between two and six times larger than a JPEG file. RAW files are bigger because they contain a much greater amount of image data. A JPEG image is essentially all that data compressed down into a smaller file size that’s easier to share.

Can you change a RAW file to a JPEG, once you shoot your photos are on the computer? How? To convert a RAW file to a JPEG image file, open your RAW file in your chosen editing software. From there, simply make a copy of the file, save, and export it as a new JPEG image file. You’ll then have two files — the original RAW file and the converted JPEG image.

If you were shooting an important event, would you shoot in RAW or JPEG? Explain. The RAW format is ideal if you are shooting with the intent of editing the images later. Shots where you are trying to capture a lot of detail or color, and images where you want to tweak light and shadow, should be shot in RAW.
